Electrolysis

The process of recycling precious metals from electronic waste is a multi-step and complex process. Each step plays a different and an important role in obtaining the final product. The chemical treatments of the e-waste process start when the materials are taken from the anode molds. As the first step of chemical operations in the precious metal recovery facility of Proses Makina, there is an electrolysis unit specially designed according to the daily production capacities of the customers. The chemical reaction is started with the necessary chemicals and the copper in the electrolysis tank remains on the anode, while the other precious metals are collected from the anode bags. The second step of chemical treatment is the refining system. The materials which come from the electrolysis unit can refine and recover separately.

The system generally consists of anode, cathode, and copper rods. DC (direct current) is used to drive the chemical reaction. The copper from the anodes is electroplated to the cathodes, while any impurities settle at the bottom of the polypropylene tank. In order to collect the precious metals in this sediment, anode bags are used. As a result of the electrolysis process, 99.99% pure copper can be obtained. Electrolysis cells have cast copper anodes. Copper has to melt by the rotary furnace to anode molds to shape depending on cell capacity. The thickness of anodes generatedby molds and necessary for process time for required capacity.
