Induction furnaces have some advantages such as working cleaner than other furnace systems, being energy efficient, and easier to control the melting process compared to other melting methods. Induction furnaces do not require an arc, combustion, or ignition like an electric arc furnace or other melting furnaces. It is possible to control the temperature because of the working without combustion. Operator can arrange enough heat for melting prevents the loss of valuable alloying elements. The system works with the help of a mechanism that creates a magnetic field. In order for the reaction to start, the current form in the furnace must induce a metal. Only metals can be melted in these furnaces due to the induce. The material which is put into the pot turns to a heat source.

The working principle of an induction furnace is based on Faraday’s law. Induction current is a varying electrical current. It is formed by the action of the magnetic field on ferromagnetic alloys. The magnetic field is generated from an electrical source. These systems are similar to an open circuit and the electrical circuit is completed with the metal placed on it. A coil of copper wire is placed inside the furnace. A magnetic field and alternating current are applied to the coil. This magnetic field creates an induction current. Eddy current is produced by the coil. It activates the electrons of the bottom of the pan, which is made of a ferromagnetic alloy. Heat is produced when electrons move. In this way, the heat is not created on the surface of the hob, but on the metal that puts it inside. The amount of heat transferred to the metal can be adjusted by electronic circuits.

An induction furnace is an electric furnace in which heat is applied by induction heating of metal. These furnaces can be designed in different capacities and can be used to melt iron and steel, copper, aluminum, and precious metals.
